Episode Summary

Mike and Zach journey back to the days of COVID and what specifically it taught Mike and his brother Victor at Absolute Airflow. They quickly learned the hallmarks of a healthy organization. They realized that success shouldn’t be measured solely by employee headcount. Good EBITDA and healthy gross margins are a much better measuring stick for success and what ultimately make organizations setup for growth.

In the early days at Absolute Airflow Mike quickly found that his early days tinkering as a kid and being a Marine, operations was his jam and where he made significant impact.

With the days of Absolute behind him, Mike discusses becoming a minority owner at Delightful Duck (formerly known as  Elite Heat And Air Conditioning). He was brought on to complete the current owner, Matt. Once again, Mike’s attention to the details comes into play where he plans to bring a small HVAC shop to the next level.

The first 5 things the Delightful Duck team are working to implement include:

  • Complete brand refresh
  • Call center overhaul and new strategies to improve booking rates
  • Maximizing service calls with advanced booking
  • Technicians helping with door hangers and visiting 2 houses to the left, 2 to the right, and 5 homes across the street.
  • Strategic planning around marketing

Lastly, Mike talks about how they are looking to grow Delightful Duck the next couple of years. Focus on expanding marketing budgets to align with where they want to go, not where they are. Examining great people with the right pay and incentive structure. And making sure labor costs are aligned and not eating too much of your operating costs.
